MANIFESTO - PARKDALE YOUTH FESTIVAL

Double K will be throwing dome some soul and reggae with the mighty Anousheh at this years Parkdale Youth Festival. Come on out for a free all day event and take in the sights and sounds of the Parkdale Area. In conjunction with Manifesto and the Queen West Arts Crawl you will not be disappointed!

The fifth annual Parkdale Youth Festival happens on Saturday September 19th, 2009 around the Parkdale Town Square (Queen Street and Cowan Avenue) from 12pm to 8pm. The focus for 2009 is to “Initiate and Educate” the youth of Parkdale, and the surrounding communities within Toronto, by providing workshops, performances, and interactive installations that are programmed by youth for youth. This year brings forth a renewed interest in the arts, encompassing music, painting, writing, reading, photography, dance, theater, and other forms of performance works and artistry.

Youth from an innovative literacy program for children in grade six to eight present a stage production with dancers and performances. The program uses the popular youth culture of hip hop, specifically hip hop music, as a means to engage children about their reading and writing.
