Get dressed up in beach wear and dance to some sweet Surf, Garage, Soul, Ska, Reggae, and Calypso music from the 50s and 60s to officially welcome our favourite season, Summer!

With resident 7″ 45 rpm vinyl selectors General Eclectic, Parkdale Funk (a.k.a. DJ Double K) and Splattermonkey!

Yes, yes ya’ll and we don’t stop! Can you believe its actually been two years already? I swear it feels like yesterday Graeme was sending me the flyer asking for approval(wait that was yesterday) Anyway time has flown! In two years we went from The Piston to Parts & Labour and now we’re at our new home HANDLEBAR… What a whirlwind.

One thing remains consistent throughout all the change and that’s our undying devotion to bring you the very best in Soul, Funk, Ska, Dancehall and Rockers. We never expected it to last this long so this is all just a pleasant surprise and one that we have you all to thank!

So at our 2-yr anniversary we have lots to be thankful for and as a show of gratitude we’re gonna be taking requests. That’s right anything you wanna hear, if we have it we’ll play it…. multiple times if the need exists!

We’ve finally decided on a theme for our next Shindig party!

Since we love to play them soo much every month anyway, we though we would dedicate the entire party to the Women of R&B particularly the Girl Group movement of the early 60′s.

That means GIRL GROUPS!!! and lots of them!! All night long!!

…and the odd female solo artists.

So expect to hear everything from the Spector sound of the Ronettes and the Crystals to Motown super groups like the Supremes and the Marvelettes as well as female solo artists like Etta “Ms. Peaches” James and Aretha Franklin and much much much much more!

All Females all night! Played loud on the Piston’s amazing sound system by resident 7″ 45 rpm vinyl selectors, Parkdale Funk, Splattermonkey and General Eclectic for your dancing delight!

ts May! One of the best months of the year! People start to come out of the woodwork, patio season commences, drinks aplenty, beautiful sunshine!

It just so happens in the heart of Kensington there is a little watering hole that has all the bases covered. Handlebar. Patio. Drinks. SoulSkank..!!

So what’s what’s going down for this one you ask? Well… Yes the residents will be in the building, DJ Double K, DJ Gramera will be holding you down all night on the wax and Dennis P will be killing it on the sax. Its Soul, Funk, Rockers, Ska, Dancehall, Motown, Stax…

So there you have it too many reasons to come out and be apart of the two anniversary of the ever evolving SoulSkank dance party! You know we don’t miss so please do yourself a favour and don’t miss out!

We’ve got a special treat for you this week! The return of DJ Misty Rock n’ Roll!

With Uma Nota happening at the Great Hall on the 26th, DJ General Eclectic will be absent from Shindig so, we turned to one of our favourite 50′s and 60′s Rock n’ Roll 7″ 45 RM Vinyl selectors to fill the void. DJ Misty Rock n’ Roll is a force to be reckoned with in Toronto so, instead of trying to compete with her raw and dirty Rock n’ Roll sound, we decided to invite her to come and rock our party!

Alongside resident Shindig crew DJs Splattermonkey & Parkdale Funk!

For me Spring is a special time of year because as it exists in metaphor its a symbol of rebirth, renewal and resurrection. It also means the end of winter! I’m sure you all know what I mean, remember back to the last SoulSkank… complete white out and by far the worst storm we had here in two yrs. Only the realest of the real came out for that and we are grateful you did!

But keeping in the spirit of Spring and the idea of rebirth and renewal its SoulSkank….!! in the new digs at the Handlebar. Ya I know we played there in February but with all due respect the conditions kept us from making that affair as epic as it should’ve been, so lets rewind or put a spin on a shottas revolver!

Usual suspects, dead eye shottas DJ Gramera and DJ Double K on the vinyl all night spinning the classics>>> Soul, Deep funk, 60′s R&B, Ska, Rockers, Dancehall and NUFF Gun man anthem (Cry Tough was a big one back in the rockers days). They will be joined by marksmen/snipper Dennis P on Sax toasting rhythms all night long… or at least until last call.

So there it is SoulSkank Spring Revolver is happening Friday, April 5th at the Handlebar come out and make out 2nd premier bigger than the first its the REBIRTH of SoulSkank! You know we don’t miss so DO NOT miss out…!

So after a bit of a break from the hectic holiday season which saw us revert to a smaller, more intimate, yet largely epic house party, we’re back terrorizing sound systems and soft core sound crews. Its SoulSkank….!!

So not much has changed we’re still the crew largely responsible for keeping you steppin to the AM with that mix of Soul, Deepfunk, Northern Soul, Stax, Rockers, Ska and Dancehall. Its still DJ Gramera, DJ Double K and Dennis P on the sax. You still will drink your faces off but at a different watering hole. That’s right the first SoulSkank of 2013 will be held at the Handlebar in Kensington Market.

So there you have it same ole song but a different meaning. Its SoulSkank at the Handlebar Feb. 8th, 2013.

It’ll be pay what you can all night! (though $5 is strongly suggested) No excuse not to come out and party with us!
