We had one hell of a Shindig last time! The best one yet! Let’s see if we can top it! I know I can! I went diggin’ through the dusty bins and came up with some really amazing Jump Rhythm & Blues 7″ 45s as well as some really cool Rockabilly! You know I’ve already got Motown’s greatest hits but now I’ve got everything else you could ask for in a Basement Soul Party! Try me. I will play your requests!

This month is the return of the mighty DJ Double K of the Parkdale Funk Show! http://parkdalefunk.com/ He’s the man who can when it comes to digging up amazing tunes on 7″ 45s and he’s bringing them all just for you to dance to!

We play Rockin’ Rhythm & Blues, Ska, Soul and a little bit of Rockabilly for good measure from labels like Parkway, Dot, Jubilee, Chess, Peacock, Dial, Cameo, Imperial, Motown, Stax, Atlantic, Capitol, Treasure Island, Studio One, Sun, MGM and much much more!

Big thanks to General Eclectic for playing an amazing set last Shindig! Big big thanks to all of you who came out and made this night such a success. It wouldn’t have been the same without you!

DJ Caff and the Steppin’ Uptown crew will be upstairs playing the best R&B tunes from the late 80s and early 90s with a focus on New Jack swing so it’ll be a perfect progression from downstairs to upstairs in terms of the evolution of Black American Music!

Catalist aka Alister Johnson is a man of many talents. He’s a superstar producer and currently has a highly successful 45 out now on Bsrtd Boots called “Hot Witness”, the keys player for Grand Analog and a DJ who is one half of the ¡Bom Senso! night at the Tequila Bookworm. Soul Power is very happy to have him grace the Starving Artist.

Simmer Down has been proving Toronto with some amazing nights of soul, funk, Brazilian, Latin and reggae music for two amazing years. The time has come to wrap things up for a while. Ol’ Mogpaws is moving base camp to Brazil and shan’t… return until Earth has gone fully around the sun once or twice more.

In addition to the usual stud-muffins, A mish mash of some of our city’s finest talent from some of your favourite parties will be dropping by with bags of records and such to make sure it’s an evening to remember. After constructive feedback, it was determined that the main lacking element to the party was sufficient sound caliber. We’ve chosen Six Degrees as it’s free of police-calling neighbours and endowed with the equipment needed to satisfy the sonically picky. Hoorah!

Downtownians will perhaps think that Eglinton is some remote, distant place that could take months to get to by tall ship…but actually it’s subway accessible and there’s a splendid/convienient upchuck express that can also safely guide you to your place of lodging. So…no excuses!
