Summer is sadly coming to an end here in Toronto so there’s no better time to put out another reggae mix to keep the sunny and positive vibes going! On the menu today is a tasty all 45 reggae mix. The mix is a bit on the chill side and has a lot of soulful reggae cuts, so I hope everyone enjoys it. “CONNECTING FLIGHT” MIXED BY DJ JUN

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

The Parkdale Funk Show has something very special, an amazing guest mix by DJ Jun of Cr8apes. This t.dot DJ is going to take you on a musical flight all over the globe with this mix. I am quite proud to be hosting such an amazing set!

As most of you know, Parkdale Funk is based out of Toronto Canada. I absolutely love this city (especially now that the garbage strike is over!) and all the talent that it holds. Over the upcoming months you’re going to see special guest mixes from t.dot DJs in a new series called Toronto Funk. DJ Jun is starting up this series so make sure to show some love and visit his mighty Cr8apes site.

www.djjun.com

Here are a few words from Jun:

“Ok, so looking over that last bunch of mixes I’ve made, I realize that I’ve been concentrating on a lot of genre-based mixes and not the cross-genre, mash’em up style that I’ve been know to play out. So, to be true to my character (not that I wasn’t being true before ;) ), I’ve put a mix together that breaks down the genre barrier and connects music from, in this case, 8 countries from 4 different continents. ‘Connecting Flight’ mixes together funk, salsa, bossa funk, brazilian & ska tunes from countries such as Germany, Panama, Nigeria and St. Lucia in a way that, hopefully, you don’t even realize that you’ve just travelled through 4 continents in just under 50 minutes.

I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I had making it.

A Big, BIG shout out to DJ Double K of Parkdale Funk who has kindly offered to post the ‘Connecting Flight’ mix as Part 1 of his ‘Toronto Funk Series’ and to give me the opportunity to share some music with his readers.”

THE REGGAE RINSE OUT VOL. 2

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

icon for podpress  Reggae Rinse Out Vol. 2 [68:19m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (1092)

Well it’s been a full year since Parkdale Funk hit the net internet airwaves and the response has been amazing! I want to thank everyone for their support and keeping Parkdale Funk a go-to site. Keep listening as Parkdale Funk’s young and still growing. Along with Parkdale Funk turning a year old, it’s also the last day of summer! So let’s turn the heat back up with a reggae work out. Since my previous reggae mix from Dec ‘07 I’ve been getting non stop requests for a new reggae mix, so as my gift back to the listeners, here’s a one hour Jamaican run down. We got 45s, 10″s, 12″s and LPs!

On a separate note, big things are coming to Parkdale Funk! The site is getting a full revamp - a new cleaner layout, much faster navigations and direct MP3 download. But don’t worry, the podcast will remain in tact and the mixes will top shelf quality. For the unveiling, I have lined up a very special guest mix from one of the US’s biggest crate diggers! Ohh big tings a gwanin’!

So enjoy the riddims (sorry for the hissy records) and remember that I’ll be playing records tonight at Mitzi’s Sister 1554 Queen St. W Toronto Canada 9-12PM.

December started out with a cold blast from Mother Nature. Toronto got hit with a massive snowstorm leaving everyone wishing that they were in Jamaica drinking Red Strip. I decided to put down my funk 45s and make a happy weather mix of reggae and Latin 45s. Here are two podcasts of fun sunny weather tunes to take your minds off the wintertime blues. Double your podcast pleasure with two mixes!
